Jonathan Montessori School is working on their Back Yard!

JMS is finishing up its new outdoor classrooms & courtyard, and moving down the hill to their new & improved Back Yard. The Back Yard will still be a natural playground, however, the new design was created by the University of Minnesota specifically for the preschool and Kindergarten students at JMS. The Back Yard will provide the students a safe and accessible way to develop their own sense of care & individual ability. At JMS each class heads outside daily (besides those bitter-cold winter days!) whether heading on a nature walk of the school’s 6.46 acres, picking raspberries from their garden or playing on the playground, the students reap the physical and mental rewards of connecting with the outdoors.

JMS’ natural play area will include a Music Garden, Heritage Camp & Fitness Fun, which are all opportunities for exploration, discovery, learning, and, of course, PLAY! These spaces allow children to be creative – inventing their own games, touching and feeling natural objects, developing balance, coordination and problem solving skills. JMS looks forward to the Back Yard installation just in time for the new school year starting August 29. To find out more about JMS go to www.jonathanmontessori.org.
