Ice Castles in Stillwater, MN. January 6-Feb 11 or until weather allows. Explore the castle made of ice, visit the Frozen sisters and watch fire performances.

The Big Chill at Fireman's Park in Chaska, MN. January 20 from 6-7:30 PM. Winter activities including ice skating to music, glow in the dark bowling, candy scavenger hunt, free s'mores over the bon fire, hot chocolate, popcorn and more. Free event.

Ice Skating Party at Community Park and Wesfield Park in Vadnais Heights
January 21,  1-5 pm, Grab your skates and scarves and have fun with your neighbors at Community Park and Westfield Park ice rink and warming house. Skating instructors available for beginners. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. This event is free!

Candlelit Ski & Dog Sled at Baylor Regional Park, Norwood-Young America, MN. Saturday, Jan. 21st & Saturday, Feb. 11th from 6pm - 9pm. Ski along luminary trails, hayrides, stargazing experience, warm refreshments around the fire and more. $5 per person, ski rental and dog sled rides are extra.


St. Paul Winter Carnival, January 26 - February 5th at Rice Park, St. Paul, MN I have highlighted only some of the events taking place this year. 
  • Snow Park at the Fair Annual Snow Stomp @ the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, January 21, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, January 22, 12:00 - 4:00 pm, drop by to see how large blocks of ice are made.
  • Wells Fargo Winter Skate, now until February 5th, at Landmark Plaza. Free open skate for everyone, skate rental available for only $4, or free if you have a Wells Fargo bank card. 
  • Moon Glow Pedestrian Parade at Rice Park, January 26, 5:15 - 8:00 pm, The Moon Glow Pedestrian Parade will officially kick off the first day of Carnival, January 26, in downtown Saint Paul. Come early and enjoy hot chocolate and cookies.  The festivities start at 5:15 p.m. with the parade starting at 6 p.m.
  • Saint Paul Winter Carnival Ice Carvings @ Rice Park in St. Paul, Starts January 26 @ 7:00 pm and ends January 28th at 9:00 am
  • Minnesota State Snow Sculpting Competition @ the Minnesota State Fair Grounds, starts Friday, Jan 27th- January 29th 
  • Snow Park at the Fair Giant Snow Slide at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, Friday January 27 - February 4 (see website for specific times) This 15 foot high and more than 300 feet long slide puts smiles on faces as families have a blast going down this hill. $2.00 per run
  • Pony Express Rides at the Landmark Center near the Wells Fargo Rink, January 28, see site for times. Pony rides for children 10 years and under, cost is $5.00/ride
  • Grand Day Parade starting on Smith Avenue to Rice Park, along West 7th Street, January 28, 2-4:00 pm
  • Kids Day at the Landmark Center, Saturday, January 28, 2-6 pm. live entertainment, bouncy house, & crafts.
  • Vulcan Fun Day at Snow Park at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, January 29, 11:00 am - 3:00 pmcheck the website for many fun events including fire truck rides, sledding, kids snow treasure hunt, snow park polar plunge, visits from the vulcans and more
  • Frozen Family Fun Night at Rice Park, January 31st, 5-8 pm, skating, entertainment, Anna & Elsa Meet & Greet, mounted police, pony rides, book reading and much more. 
  • Winter Carnival Family Day Celebrates Diversity at the Landmark Center, February 4, noon - 5:00 pm, activities for children, a DJ with kids music, and much more.
  • Saint Paul Winter Carnival Fireworks in Rice Park, February 4, 7:30 pm - 7:45 pm

US Pond Hockey Championships on Lake Nokomis, January 26-29. 12th annual and brings hockey enthusiasts out for a week-end of outdoor hockey. Here is the schedule of events.

Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival, January 28, noon to 4:00 pm, You will see kites of all shapes, sizes, colors and themes will fly over frozen Lake Harriet. Other fun family activities at the festival include ice fishing, horse-drawn wagon rides, snowshoeing, and a marshmallow roast.

February Festival at Lake Ann in Chanhassen. Feb 4. from 12-3pm. Sleigh rides, ice skating, sledding, ice fishing contest, medallion hunt and more.

Polar Bear Picnic at Lowry Nature Center in Victoria, MN. February 4 from 12-4pmSnowshoe, kicksled, ice miniature golf, ice bowling, sledding, bonfire, crafts and more. $7 per person.

Winterfest at McLeod County Fairgrounds, Hutchinson, MN. Feb. 4 from 10am-4pm. Dogsled rides, the Raptor Center with their Owl, Hawk, Bald Eagle,and Falcon, alpacas from Abbey Alpacas, a snow mountain for children to play on, snowmobile rides, snow shoeing, ice skating rink, meet the Frozen characters and their friends, coloring contest, facepainting, a silent auction. Free event, dog sled rides are $2.

Bear'ly Open at the Ramsey County Beach on White Bear Lake, Feb 3-4, golf on ice, food, entertainment, & more.

Art Shanty Projects on White Bear Lake, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm from Feb 4 - 26. Come and view the creativity in the art shanty projects.

Winter Fest Family Fun Night @ Shepherd of the Hills, Shoreview, Mn, Feb. 8, 6:30 - 8:00 pm,  Walking Tacos,Sugar Cube Castle Making, Hot Chocolate Bar, Bouncy House, and MUCH MORE! Cost: Free,
Dinner is a suggested donation of $5.00/person

City of Lakes Loppet  at 1301 Theodore Wirth Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55422, February 3-5, Included: snow shoeing, skijoring, kubb, fat tire and Ice bike riding, cross-country skiing, dogsledding, snow sculpture contests and the Luminary Loppet! 

Red Bull Crashed Ice at the capital of Minnesota will host the third event of the season on the frozen banks of the Mississippi River on February 3-4, 2017. For the past five freezing-cold winters, Saint Paul has hosted the ice cross downhill competition, with a huge crowd of more than 100,000 people converging under the gaze of the imposing Cathedral of Saint Paul to witness the high-speed action that features skaters competing in four-man heats in a race to the bottom of a long ice track filled with obstacles.
