Open weekends through Oct. 31st

By Sponsored Review by Jamie Schlechter, Macaroni Kid Publisher September 30, 2015
This past weekend our family checked out the Pumpkin Patch Festival at Nelson Family Farm for the first time.  This is definitely a place to go to every year in the fall with your family.  There was so much to do, we didn't get time to do all the activities.  This historic family farm has something for everyone in the family at any age.

Explore the farm, visit the animals and learn about the sod house and equipment.  We saw chickens, geese, sheep, donkey, rabbits and baby chicks.  Inside the buildings were facts and stories about the animals and buildings.  There were so many places for the kids to explore they were always climbing or playing on something.
Race trikes in the pumpkin 500, play in fun houses, slide and climb through the tunnels, ride on the bouncy balls and much more.

Fun classic games too! Challenge a friend to a life sized game of checkers or tic-tac-toe.  Play corn cob golf, farm frisbee golf, bean bags or mini golf.

Enjoy a hayride by tractor around the farm or to the pumpkin patch.

Race down the hill in the Soap Box Derby (this was our favorite!, check out video here)  Don't want to steer, you can ride in the carts pulled by tractor around the trail. There are also barrel rides pulled by a lawn tractor.

The Ag. Olympics starts at 1:30pm and the Trebuchet (Pumpkin Flinger) is daily at 2:30.  Check out video here, followed by the coin scramble.

Find your way as a family through the corn maze or let the kids explore the straw maze.  Swinging in the Hay Loft for children 8th grade and under or zip line for kids older than 8.

All above activities are included in your $8 admission to the farm.  For an additional charge; ride the ponies for $4, have face painted, take a wagon ride that is horse-drawn or combine rides for $2 each.  Vendors have food and beverages for sale.  (the mini donuts were delicious)

Purchase all your fall decorating needs at very reasonable prices.  Pick your pumpkin from the patch or choose one from the store. Lots of pumpkins, gourds, corn, corn stalks and more to choose from at the store and check out the gift shop too.  Staff is very friendly and when visiting we felt like family!

Nelson Farm is open Saturdays from 11-5pm, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31st.  Sundays from 12-5pm, Sept. 27, Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25th and MEA Oct. 15 and 16th.

Special nights for a corn maze by flashlight on Oct. 9, 10, 16 & 17.
